CALLUM TAKES OSWALDTWISTLE BY STORM

Local singer/songwriter Callum Thomas launched his new EP titled Rebirth at Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre on Saturday June 24th to tumultuous applause and an array of bubbles.

The event was a great success and over 70 people paid the £4 ticket price to see Callum and supporting act Bronte.

Callum said:

“It was a memorable night and one I’ll always remember. I had such positive feedback and they even liked the material I did from my first EP.”

Callum’s first EP, Dusk to Dawn was recorded in 2013 and like Rebirth contained five self-penned tracks. That EP was produced at Heywood Studios in Bury with A&R producer Andy Ross.

Speaking about his new EP Callum told me:

“Rebirth is about kind of reinventing yourself as an artist and that is what this EP is really all about.

“Over this last four years I’ve been experimenting with styles to see what suits me best. In my gigs I’ve been performing genres such as Indie, Rock and Pop, soul Disco… the list goes on really.”

I asked Callum to tell me more about the new EP.

“Rebirth is about me experimenting what style is best for me. On the EP all the songs are completely different, but the same.
“The EP is electronic. It’s electronic pop music with elements of live guitars etc really, so the title track is quite atmospheric, it’s quite church-like with a kind of rock vibe to it also.”

About another of the tracks called Rhye, Callum said:

“It’s rocky and it maintains that rock element all the way through. Another track called Sober is not rock but kind of tropical dance pop music, influenced by artists such as Sia and (Lady) Gaga.

“I thought Rebirth was the perfect title for the EP because it’s the process of what I’ve been doing over the past four years.”
Unlike Dusk to Dawn Callum has produced this EP himself, all the harmonies, drumbeats, rhythms are done by him but he does say that a friend called Tom helped him to achieve the sound that he wanted and thanks him for that.

For anyone who would like to hear the EP before buying a copy we are happy to announce if you click on the link at the bottom of this page you will be able to listen to Callum himself talking about the making of it and much more and what’s more you will also hear all five tracks from Rebirth.

Going back to launch night though Callum said he was grateful to Bronte, his supporting act on the night whom he described as a theatrical Electro-pop singer/songwriter.

During his last two numbers Callum told me:

“We had a bubble machine on stage and it was activated for those two songs. It was really special and crowned a wonderful night.”
