R.I.P. CILLA

Celebrities come and go but learning of the death of Cilla Black at her home in Spain really knocked me for six. Speaking to friends I have learned I am not on my own. Cilla Black was (and I know this phrase is overused) a National Treasure. One person who was also taken by surprise at the sudden death of someone people of my age have grown up with is Jim Bowes, the owner of Custard Cube Music in Accrington and a prolific poet in his own right. Here is his poetic tribute to the late lamented Cilla Black.

Our Cilla

It came as such a surprise surprise when I heard the awful news.
I was informed by breakfast telly, so many sadly gave their views.
I'll remember when I was just teenager all those many years ago.
I had a poster of you on my wall, with your beautiful face on show.

So many celebrities are on the telly, and have been for quite a while.
Some will have a personality, whilst others will rely on their style.
You my dear had everything, a humour and personality that shone.
Only now to be fully appreciated, sadly on the day that you've gone.

I remember you singing to me and inviting me to take a step inside.
Saying that anyone who had a heart was welcome to hop on the ride.
Although you moved in the high places you never forgot who you were.
Barbara, Cliff and O'Grady gave you love, of this you were always sure.

You could've quite easily walked in the footprints laid on the Dusty road.
Or skipped along a sandy shoreline in memories that eventually erode.
You were the cloakroom girl, along with others you had a ticket to ride.
Liverpool back in the day was the epicentre... with you it's female pride!
