Oswaldtwistle Lights Switched on in Jubilee Gardens

On Wednesday evening, November 26th, Oswaldtwistle folk gathered to see their Christmas lights switched on. They came in their hundreds and were treated to a pre-light performance by the East Lancashire Concert Band. Readings were performed by young people from Oswaldtwistle Civic Centre and pupils from St Andrew’s CE Primary School sang carols.

The evening was compered by Councillor Judith Addison who then invited Carnival Queen, Stephanie Moore to press the plunger and switch on the lights. This ceremony goes back to 2000 when the Oswaldtwistle lights were first officially switched on.

A delighted crowd around the tree were then given mince pies and chocolates courtesy of Millercare and the Oswaldtwistle Co-op.

CHRISTMAS HAS ARRIVED AT ASPEN FOLD WEST END!

Tony & Linda Jenkinson could not believe the crowd that descended on their normally quiet cul-de-sac, Aspen Fold.

Around 500 people came to the light switch on where neighbours this year also decorated their homes as Tony has done for the past 12 years, to raise funds for the Marie Curie Nurses in memory of his father.

Tony & Linda's son Lee and family came up from Wales to make sure all the lighting was in order for the special evening. Santa arrived on his sleigh courtesy of Church & Oswaldtwistle Rotary Club and chatted to the children.

The family would like to say a a big Thank You to MK Luminations, Darwen, festivelights.com at Wigan, The Bethany Girls, Asda, Warburtons, Shane the burger man & Garden Gate Florists.

Well worth a visit over the festive period.
